Now you know my interest for cognac and my very special admiration for the brand Remy Martin. I just came back from a trip to France during which I had the chance to taste some of the finest AOC. Now I’m back to Shanghai to find on my desk a welcome back gift from Frederic in an attempt not to have me missing the divine products of our homeland too much: an original vintage oak wood lap desk, limited series by our favorite cognac purveyor: Remy Martin.
Can it get any better than that? Well… the piece was property of Mr Pat Morita… Now if you didn’t grow up in the 80’s and raised by American TV series I won’t blame you for not knowing who Morita is…
“Karate Kid”? Anyone? Pat Morita a.k.a Mr Kesuke Miyagi was the Oscar nominated co-star actor of for “Karate Kid 1, 2” (1984, 1986), voice of the Emperor in Disney’s Mulan, Hideki Tanaka in “Baywatch”, Matsuo Takahashi in “Happy Days”, and he even played in episodes of “Magnum P.I”, “The Incredible Hulk”, “Man from Atlantis”, “Starsky & Hutch” (!!!!!!), “Columbo” and another dozens cult American TV shows. Born in 1932, Mr Morita was the first American-born Asian nominated for an acting Oscar.
Mr Morita left us in 2005 and is survived by his wife, Evelyn Morita who had the kindness to let this beautiful Remy Martin writing box once owned by her beloved husband to cross the Ocean again and find place on the desk of a French cognac lover, in China…
Thank You Frederic! Thank You Madame Morita!
